HELP ME!!
I need a second opinion....
Re: 2001 Celica GT, manual 5-speed.

Took car to the dealer for a recall on daytime running lights (legally lights too bright, installing a "dimming box".) Dealer did not install correct. Noticed on ride home that dashboard indicated that my high-beams are on (in the lovely un-ignorable neon blue). AND NO DAYTIME LIGHTS.

While waiting for car Dr appt to fix THEIR booboo, noticed intermittent dashboard & other issues-
Tachometer, speedometer, gas gauge, trip-meter, AND odometer (sometimes at 0, sometimes reading correctly) now only work occasionally. And not due to any bumps in the road, it doesn't work as soon as the key is in the ignition.

When I put the car in reverse, my dashboard would politely beep at me. (which it never has done in 5 years)

Took the car to dealer, described issues to them. First question from both the mechanic AND the service advisor "IS IT A 6 SPEED?"

Which lead me to believe that the 6-speed "dimming box" was used instead of the 5-speed style.

Now they are telling me that my intermittent dashboard has nothing to do with the daytime running lights issue that they messed up on originally, and now I'm going to have to shovel out 700 dollars to have the issue fixed.

When you use the wrong cord for the wrong electrical item, do you run the risk of frying computers connected in the system?

Think about that guitar pedal that fried when you plugged into the cord with too much power... that's where I am.

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY FEEDBACK OR TID-BITS TO SHARE?

THANK YOU!!

wow sorry to hear the problems....
the issue sounds like it could be something as stupid as a loose plug, maybe the didnt fully plug something back in when they were doing there install. if the wrong part was installed sure it can cause some serious damage.

It has been easier to both get a root canal and have my tv repaired than it has been trying to get the celica back in one working piece.
*it's the 4th visit to the shop on this same issue since March 2006*

Update:
Upon removal and dismantlement of my "gauge cluster", a cracked circuit board was found. How this cracked, I will probably never know.
I'm not getting any answers on what kind of circuit board it is other than the obvious "it's a board with circuits".
They still insist that I will need an entire new "gauge cluster", $674.

Anyone have a clue about the innards of the gauge cluster and if, in-fact, this board is replaceable?

I can tell you yes its replaceable, but no toyota wont sell parts from the cluster they will just sell you the whole cluster....
you have no idea how it cracked? a circuit board doesnt just crack out of nowhere.

No clue at all how it cracked. Someone else said the same thing about cracked circuit boards.

It's all stock and has never had any modifications or serious repairs ever. (other than standard maintenance)

Does it maybe sound like a lame excuse?
