I would like to replace the rear speakers in my 2001 gt, I had someone replace the speakers and tweeters in the front and add a amp and sub. The same people told me they could not replace the speakers in the rear because they were rivetted in and or they did not have a size that would fit. I now just added a new radio, Pioneer AVIC d3 and also added bluetooth. Everything sounds pretty good but i think my system could sound even better if I replace the factory rear speakers. What are others using in there ride ??

Most people actually don't replace the rear speakers. Considering about 90% of your sound comes from your doors...it's actually just better to get 2 really nice speakers and leave the back ones stock. So if, the ones you've already bought are nice and its too much of a hassle to replace the back I wouldn't worry about it. As they are now should be fine. Quality>Loudness IMO

Thanks, I think you might be right, maybe I'll just leave them alone. Maybe I'll put that money towards the cold air intake (AEM) I've been eyeballing instead.

Who said you can't replace your rear speakers?? They must have no idea about car audio at all. Yes, it's rivetted in, all you have to do is to drill it out, as simple as that. Run an amp then you can go with a pair of high-end full ranger speakers, or opt for a pair of components. Good luck.

I've had my rear speaker removed. They resemble mid woofers and hence aren't full range speakers. If you do replace them, and truly crave a good sound, they'll need to match the front speakers timbre wise. What kind of speakers were installed in your front doors?

Thanks for gettting back to me on this.
I had the front speakers and tweeters replaced a couple of years ago, the people I had install them said they couldnt replace the rear speakers because they are riveted in and they did not have speakers that would fit. I sort of suspected they were full of crap and just didnt want to go thru the additional trouble of installing new ones. I have been trying to find the receipt from when i had them installed, I dont remember what I had them put in. I just now had the radio replaced with a Pioneer Avic D3 with blue tooth its GREAT!! Also when I had the nitwits install the front speakers I also had them install a amp (MTX thunder) and a sub (also MTX) So the only original speakers are the rears. I'll take your advice and match the rear to the front speakers, thanks again.

Yes, you can replace the rear speakers. They're 6.5". Get a small amp for your highs, it makes a huge difference. But it's really annoying for anyone sitting in the back because the speaker is right in front of them. If you get a 4 ch amp, you can still control the fader for your front/rear speakers, so that's your best choice. It takes a while to wire up, but if your bass is too loud, like it was in my case, then a small amp will make everything sound more balanced.
