pilot bushing bearing or n/a

first time owner of a toyota,first time ever posting,upper 50s,old duffer! I picked up a decent 91 celica figured 30 year old son needed a temp car since his car was totalled sitting out front of the house, so i picked this celica GT needing a clutch set, when i removed the tranny the disk center was broke out and disk thickness was almost new so i figured installed backwards ? then i noticed that there was no pilot bearing or bushing so i called auto parts store and they told me it doesnt require one and there wasnt one in the clutch kit, so i installed the tranny and seems to work fine, that was a week ago but the idea of no support for the shaft bothers me big time so i called another auto parts store and they said it does take a bearing but they dont have it in stock ! Now im alittle worried and i need to know for sure so can anyone help me get the answer,the correct answer?

I don't know what year and model Celica you have (would be best to know that), but if we assume a 1993 ST model, that vehicle has a 0.472" ID x 1.260" OD x 0.391" wide needle roller bearing for the clutch pilot bearing. Same year GT model uses a 1.181" ID x 1.968" OD x 0.669" wide roller bearing for the clutch pilot bearing. Recommendation is to replace the pilot bearing at every clutch change. I am sure you are asking for problems if there is no pilot bearing installed. Input shaft flex will fatigue the shaft and cause it to break.

The parts store may have stated that the pilot bearing doesn't require a change with a clutch change (could reuse old one), but there must be a pilot bearing installed, new or used.
