Cleaning out mouse nest near blower, (fan) motor

Hello to all. I have had my 95 Celica GT in the same garage for a few years now with no problems. At times it would be in storage for a few months during the winter, with no issues. I went to take it out today, and turned the fan on for some fresh air, and got blasted by dry stuff coming out all over. The fan motor makes a dull hum if you turn it up higher. I assume that somehow mice made a nest in there, and now I need to clean it out. I need some advice on where to start, and what the best procedure is. I am guessing that I need to get the glove box out, and go from there. It looks like the glove box slips out by squeezing the sides of it just enough to pop out the two pegs that hold it in place. I have worked on other car interiors, and have had mice in cars before, but not this make/model so I want to make sure I do it right. I truly appreciate any help that is given. By the way, I guess dryer sheets don't always keep the rodents away. Thank you.

I guess I should ask this then. Would it be easiest to remove the fan assembly underneath the glove compartment, (appears to be held on with approx. 3-4 screws), and vacuum out that area in and around the fan. I asume that is the area where all the stuff is at that is choking the fan. If anyone has any suggestions or advice regarding this I would sure appreciate it. I just need to know the best place to start, and disrupt as little of the car as possible. Thanks.

You got it pretty much right, except I think if you worked on taking just the glove box out, you won't get the shell behind it. There are just a few screws to remove the entire assembly, it is really quite easy. And yes, the blower assembly is removed by taking the 3 or 4 screws out. I've removed it successfully without removing the glove box on a 5th Gen Celica, but that may not be possible on a 6th Gen.

Only problem now is that you dispersed what was located only in your blower housing throughout your ventilation system now. How you get that all out, I'm not sure. Hopefully you haven't plugged up the heater and evaporator coils with debris. Not a lot of fun getting all this stuff out, once it is dispersed.

I can access the screws on the fan assembly without taking the glove box out, (have to pretty much lay on my back to do it. Would I need to take any more of the components out other than just the fan assembly to get a small vacuum tube in there to start cleaning? Someone also recommended going in from the top by removing the cowl grill at the base of the winshield, but that seems like a lot of extra work that may not even get close to where the issue is. Thanks you again for your help, I really appreciate your time.

I suppose taking things apart, like dash vents and defroster vents, will help get some of the small stuff out. It won't get you to the air inlet side of the heater core of the A/C evaporator coils though, which is likely where a lot of this stuff ended up. I guess it is up to you how much you all want to take apart to get at all the ductwork. Worst (or is that best?) case scenario is to remove the entire dash to access all the ductwork so it can be disassembled and cleaned. Don't know if you want to go that far.
