Hey there Celica owners. I currently own a 1995 Toyota Celica GT-S, equipped with the stock 5sfe motor as well as the automatic transmission. I found an All-trac ‘92 Celica with its 2nd gen 3sgte, tranny & turbo. I’m wondering how hard of a task it is to bolt on the engine directly into my current at204 chassis? If anyone has knowledge on this, please do let me know. Thanks!

You have an ST204 (not an AT204). You can bolt the 3S-GTE engine up to your transmission just fine. Engine mounts will be pretty close also. But you won't have an ECU that works both with a turbo engine and an automatic transmission. The exhaust would be totally different due to the turbo. Must have the turbo engine wiring harness. If you are very electrically savvy, you could perhaps do a piggy=back ECU setup to make it work. Boost pressure control is critical on these engines - your instrument cluster would not have the boost gauge - you will need to find a way to see boost pressure (at least highly advisable). There is a forum (www.alltrac.net) that has a lot of folks with All-Tracs - they may be able to better assist you there.

Thanks for the detailed response! - Yea I realized that I misspelled “st” with “at”. I see what you mean with the ecu, but the 3sgte does come with a manual tranny I forgot to mention. I think i’ll only be picking up the 3sgte (2nd gen) and the whole turbo setup as well as the harness.
Once again, thanks!

Make sure the ECU comes with the 3S-GTE also.

Yes, on an ST185, the only option the 3S-GTE had for a transmission was a manual. But the 3S and 5S blocks are very similar, so I'm thinking an automatic transmission on a 5S-FE should bolt onto a 3S=GTE. But the ECU on the 5S-FE had a role in the electronic shifting of it's automatic. The ECU on a 3S-GTE which had a manual transmission will not provide any of the shifting output needed for an automatic transmission. You need to figure out a way over that hurdle.

Awesome, Thanks! I also just found a st205 that popped up a few hours ago near my city which is awesome since the guy is parting the car! So i’m highly considering that this would be better to put inWondering if you know what exactly I’d need to part from the car, to this 3sgte into my ‘92 GT-S auto? Again, thanks for all the help!

Like 93 said, get the
  • engine
  • intercooler
  • transmission
  • harness
  • ECU
  • body pigtails for the ecu

You'll need to adapt your body wire harness to the new ECU

You'll need to adapt the intercooler to the car - ie add scoop/exhaust to the hood or do a custom location.
If he plans to use his automatic transmission, how will he get the electronic control of the shifting done? That is done by the ECU, but his 3S-GTE ECU, given it is coming from an All-Trac, was made for a manual transmission, so it will not provide automatic transmission electronic shift control.
