What's the most economical but still good quality struts front and rear seeing that oem is discontinued?
Currently my front end makes all kind of crunching knocking sounds over rough surfaces. I'll be changing mounts and front lower control arms to due to bushing swell from oil leaks. Thanks

P.s why are so many places showing front struts that look like a conventional shock instead of a normal strut that has the spring perch. Rock auto as well as other websites show what's in the picture below as fronts.

You are showing images of cartridges, not struts. In 1989 models, many original front struts had gland nuts where the rod comes out of. Those gland nuts are removable. When remove, you will find a cartridge inside. These were made to replace the cartridges only instead of the entire strut assembly. If your front struts are still original and have these gland nuts, then replaceable cartridges would be your best option (if the front struts are not badly corroded).

The noise you are saying you have could also come from the front and/or rear sway (stabilizer) bars due to worn out bushings. If bushings are your source of the noise, you may want to replace those first and then see if you really have any strut problems or not.
