why do i always seem to be the one answering tyre questions

well..
firstly what you have is....
185/70/13 which means 185mm section width, 13 inch rim and a profile height ratio of 70

that equates to...
129mm sidewall
589mm rolling diameter.

depending on how big a rim you want to put on and how big is legal where you are.... here the biggest legal is +1" width +2" diameter from the laregest rim originally offered.

now since the 87 would have been offered w/ 14X6" (correct me someone) you would be able to put 16X7 or 16X6.5"

17" looks mad but the rubber jumps out in cost generally. also depending on where you are it may or maynot be legal.

if you want to go 16" you should go for a 215/45/16 tyre which will only kick your speedo out 1.8% or a 215/40/16 -1.8% either way not significant. the 45 is prob a better choice just becasue it will give a smoother ride and is a shade eaiser to get meaning more variety in tyres avalible.

if you want to go for a 17 a 215/45/17 will kick you out by 6.1% and a 215/40/17 only by 2.5%

i would check your orignal manual etc for the cart im suprised it comes w/ 13" rims i *should* come w/ 14" and 185/64/14 rubbers.

any more q's just ask i seem to know a bit re rubber

215/45/16
Now is that the rim size or the entire wheel???
i'm a complete moron when it comes to tire stuff...

215/45/16 is the tyre size.

215mm section width/45 series height profile/suit 16" rim

and get a set of 16"diameter/6.5"width or 16"/7" rims. just check w/ your local traffic authority and your insurance company what 1) is legal 2) they will cover on insurance..

casue if you have illgal sized rims something insurance companies are inclined to so is say "sorry sir your car has illegal rims on it and hence the car is unroadworthy here is your insurance premium back we wont cover your claim"

a real problem when you back into a lamborghini. (dont laugh my mum has)

goto your local tyre shop and have a chat to them. ive always found that some of the smaller shops not the chain retailers offer a better deal and give better service. but them what your looking for and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

once one mob helps you out w/ decising what you want phone up some more places and tell them exactly what you want. if you already sound like you know what your talking about you are less likley to get ripped off. and this way you can check if your getting a good prioce form one mob. with my rims i was quoted prices between 2300 and 2800 just from different shops around town. so ask around and youll be sure to get a good deal.

Word is out on the street that the tire (tyre) size is 5.5 x 13 ". Sounds goofy to me.

And, it does have 185/70/13 wrapping those monstorous 13" wheels.
just rembered...

the 13" rims would prob be a delete option w/ the 14X6's avaliable or standard. so the 13" would have been part of the poverty pack,.

but even still the rules here say +2 on the largest rim orriginally offered.

What toof is talking about only applies to Australia I believe. I haven't heard of any regulations on tire size here in the states. You can fit 16" rims on the car, and the width, either 6.5" or 7" just depends on if it will rub in the wheel well or not. If you need any more advice, let me, or toof, or someone know, we are more than happy to help.

I have 205/60s on my GT-S but I think they are 14's and 6 wide, how big can I go in width and in rim diameter?

I'm a bit late on this reply, but 185/70R13 is a 13x5.5 rim size, the 165SR13 (the stock for some Celicas) is 13x5, and the 205/60/14 (the "sport" stock tires) are 14x6. I'm looking for 205/60/14's for my car, just for a little extra rubber on the road for the summer, and I can get better sports tires for them. Anyone have four they want to get rid of, I drive a 88 GT liftback with four stud rims.

the rim size regulations are differing from state to state here so i would imagine that it would be similar there as well. so check before you get em.

on my 91 i run 17X7 w/ 215/40ZR17 rubber and it dosent rub at all.
