I ran a GTS over 300K miles with the cheapest 87 Octane, no problem. Engine is smooth and strong, not knocking, compression 220 +/-5 over all cylinders.

If you race or drive at red line a lot, you probably need high Octane fuel, but for average daily driving, lower octane fuel should be OK.

As I drove with the last couple ozs of Arco 87 Octane in the tank this week, did notice some knocking when climbing steep hills.

Fill the tank up and there was no more knocking.

Perhaps the minimum amount of fuel left in the car had enough contaminants to cause knocks.
