So can someone tell me if I put brand new valves in my 2001 Celica GT 1.8. what size lifters would I need to purchase with new valves? Considering all the different thickness to choose from? I mean should there be standard size lifters with brand new valves? Thanks

I'm not aware of different lifters. Do you mean valve shims or lash caps? Typically I use the valve shims that came on the engine, put everything together and measure the lash. Then you go and purchase the shims that you need. Unless you are building a lot of engines, it isn't very cost effective to have an assortment of every shim on hand and enough of them to do all of the valves. Unfortunately, it just takes longer to assemble a Toyota head in a home garage. You should also be able to use the stock lifters unless you believe they are contaminated with garbage that went through your oiling system.
