A mechanic will charge you less than $100 to do a pre-sale inspection. It is money well spent if you don't know what you are looking at. You can even learn from the mechanic and the report what to look for on other cars. If the seller will not take it to your mechanic for inspection, then it is probably not a good car or the seller is not being very honest.
