Hi the engine in my 1990 celica gt needs to be replaced. I was wondering if the 5SFE in the camry such as this 3 Yr Warranty - Toyota 5SFE Engine Camry Motor Solara - Crate Engine - 90 - 95 | eBay

Will fit. If not what engine would fit with minimal work.

It'll fit in the space, BUT

You may find that:

• the mounting holes for engine mounts, etc are in the wrong place requiring custom mounts
• your pan doesn't fit
• injectors area not matched requiring a custom ecu.

You might be better off getting a 89-93 used and doing your own rebuild or sending it to machine shop for a rebuild.

Engines from Camry's can have different intake manifolds and are tuned differently (less power) along with the other for mentioned problems. It's easiest to get one from a Celica gt. Secondly as much as I'm a toyota fan boy I must say bottom ends on the 7a-fe and 5s-fe like to go out every 200-250k so a rebuild is in order if you buy a higher mileage motor. Best of luck.

I went the other way and swaped out the 3SFE with the proper twin cam 3SGE, changed out the loom, ecu, and cross member, and changed the fuel pump to 40lb unit for the larger injector
