1992 OEM exhaust manifold, 2.2L 5S-FE

Hello everyone, I'm a new member and have a question. My wife has a 1992 Celica GTS (daily driver, she purchased new), and it has developed a crack in the exhaust manifold. Does anyone have a parts source for a new OEM-type manifold? Napa and Parts Geek only lists a manifold for the 1.6L engine. I reside in CA, where (most) aftermarket performance parts (header-type exhaust) are generally not available for shipping to this state.

Thank you,
-Doug

Have you tried any local bone yards? Really doesn't have to be new. Check online in your area and contact a salvage (recycle) yard and they can put on a search with their intranet. Assume you have a 2,2 ltr?
Thanks Sea-J,

Yes, 2.2L. I've checked locally, there was only an exhaust manifold for the 1.6L and those are still available (new) from Dorman (Napa and others). I'll need to locate a competent welder with cast iron brazing skills and hope for the best.

I like your avatar.
Also, there is a common problem with Celica s of this age. The original design had the cat with a mounting bracket connected to the front side of the block. You likely have a aftermarket cat which did not have the bracket and possibly you might be missing the hanger bracket that is connected to the backside of the blick. 9th of these brackets are used to stabilize the front part of the exhaust to the engine vibration and to spread the weight of the exhaust out across the brackets rather than hanging on the manifold.

If you get it welded, consider having the shop create a front mounting bracket. The rear hanger is a common aftermarket item that you or a exhuast shop can install.

Also, search www.car-part.com

Thanks for that info, sefiro. As the original owners of the car, we haven't changed the exhaust system or cat yet, but there could be some damage that has occurred, over the years. The exhaust does seem venerable in the front to parking stops and blocks, as it exits the cast iron manifold. I'll be now looking for possible broken - missing brackets & hangers, as well.

Thanks for the link.
Have you found a replacement exhaust manifold yet? There are several Celicas in a salvage yard by me with 5S-FE engines in them that I would think would have a good exhaust manifold. Not all that much fun to remove though, with that large catalytic converter connected to it. But if you still have a need, I can take a look to see if a good one is still out there. The yard I go to doesn't pull parts (it is a you-pull-it yard) and won't ship parts. An exhaust manifold is heavy and will cost a lot to ship to you in California, just so you are aware. But if you have a need, let me know so I can see if I can help you.
Thanks, 93celicaconv and others for your help and suggestions.
I feel like an idiot but have found the problem. Upon closer inspection and using a lift, the exhaust manifold was fine, but the noise turned out to be the water pump. Since its replacement (timing and other belts too), the noise is now gone!
I'm sure I'll be asking other questions in the future, for the Celica is my wife's daily driver.
Thank you,
-Doug
No problem, Doug. Feel free to ask any time. I'm sort of big into the 5th Gen Celicas - we've had 6 in the family at one time, had them of every trim level and every body style (coupe, convertible, liftback), including a couple of All-Tracs. I enjoy helping where I can. Glad you got your wife's Celica issue is resolved. The water pump was propbably trying to tell you to get the timing belt changed anyway, so it was all a good thing!!!!
