I have an '02 GTS. My keys weren't chipped and it even has the Dealer Installed TDS Security system (Granted I don't have the remotes).
When I bought it, I was given a single plain metal key. So I went to lowes and they set me up and cut them there. Granted they don't have the toyota insignia on them, but they are practically the same key, rubber top and all.
One key wasn't right, so they cut me another one free of charge.
Does everything keys should do. Locks and unlocks all doors including hatch, and obviously turns over the ignition.
I just did that .. bought a use smart key on ebay for $37 $6 for a blank key and the local Locksmith in Plantation charge me $50 to program the smart key and cut my blank key on my 2007 GS350 I called the Lexus Dealer before that and they wont even do it.. they said I need to buy a brand new $300 key to them and they can program it for free... BTW it only took about 20 minutes to reset the ECU and re program the Sm
I have a 2000 GT-S. I was given the original key (Toyota logo, black plastic) and a valet key (all metal with Toyota logo). I went to a local locksmith who charged me $4 for two keys. First two didn't work, so he went back and cut two new keys for me free of charge. The new ones work, lock/unlock and start the engine. The guy there was so excited to cut my keys, he loves Celicas lol.
