Default Thinking About a 92 Convertible

Hi Guys,

So back in college I had a 1986 GTS and I was hoping to find one of those in halfway decent condition, but have struck out. I just test drove a 92 Convertible with 69K on the clock and it seems like it is in pretty good shape. Other than some appearance issues, the only problems I could see or hear was that once the engine warmed up it idled a little on the rough side, purred when it was cold and when you hold the steering wheel straight it went left pretty good, but let go the wheel and it went in a fairly straight line so that just might be the wheel not out on centered.

Is there any common issues I should be aware of before pulling the trigger? The guy is only asking $3250, so it's not like I am taking a huge dollar risk just don't want the hassle.

BTW this wouldn't be my daily driver by any means, I have a 4Runner for that, this is just top down fun.

Lots of old age items to check for. Sensors, wire harness, cruise control, top operation, motor mounts.

Sounds like it needs a tuneup. Were you checking idle with AC on or not? There is an idle up that raises the idle to compensate. If not working, you'll have idle problems.

If the wheel is not centered, then some suspension work had been done. Need to check/ask what?

Well, I pulled the trigger and it’s sitting in my garage as we speak. Need to clean it up a little but can’t wait to start enjoying it.

I am sure I will be asking a few questions now and then.

Here are some pics.

Her in service date was 12/31/1990, purchased and serviced from the same dealer I bought the 4Runner you see in the background. It was owned by a single family the entire time and based on the service records, they took real good care of it.

Picked it up for $3k...First upgrade I want to make is get a boot for the top, if any of you know where I can pick one up let me know!
