Angry Need Celica Engine

I had the recent misfortune to buy a 2002 Celica GT, auto trans. and 118K miles. I drove it sparingly for a week when the engine started to rattle above 1400 RPM. I had the assorted pullys and idlers checked with no luck. After some research, it looks like I bought a certified dog turd with the infamous #1 cylinder problem. The rest of the car appears to be in prestine shape. I can't realistically go out and buy another vehicle. So, I am looking at swapping to a newer 1ZZ type engine. I understand that 2004 and up don't have the problems of earlier models. I live in the Seattle/Tacoma area of Washington state. If anyone could recommend a source for an engine, I would appreciate it.

Seattle huh? I would go to Foreign Engines in Lynnwood on Highway 99 that's where I got my JDM 4A-FE for my 1993 Celica when the motor blew it was about $899 but all the engines they sell only have 50,000 miles or less. You can also buy a 1 year warranty for $100 more which I did. I'm from the Everett area man, contact me if you need help.

I just got a 02 with 113k on it, hopefully i dont have that same problem =X and you're right Brian 03 and up had the problem fixed. Later 02 models had it fixed too but who knows which is which there. Luckily for the GTS it didnt have the issue because of a different engine altogether

I am looking through the owners manual and all I see for the engine is
1ZZ-FE. The car is still at the mechanics so I can't take a look at it. What do the JDM and USDM designations mean and do you know where I can find them ??
