Default Rough idle when warm

Hi everyone, I'm new to this but I have a problem with my 2001 Toyota celica. Basically engine light came on and was idling rough, got it plugged in, turned out to be a lambda sensor after cat. So I changed that, with what I've been told as the right sensor. Had it plugged in to clear code and it said idle control valve and lambda. So changed the idle control valve and still idles rough. When it's warm it bounces to two hundred rpm then it struggles (nearly cutting out) and jumps back up too just passed four hundred. Any ideas???

Thanks for your help

Smile My 2001 GT

I also have a 2001 GT manual transmission. I am having a very similar problem! I am perplexed as to what it may be...

I have a rough idle once the car is warmed up. It will go from 900 down to 200 rpms stay for a few seconds, then pop up to 500, then back to 300 so on and so fourth. It never dies... It only happens in cool weather like under 85* F or so. Anything hotter then the car runs flawlessly. Please let me know if you find anything out.

Did you recently put an intake in? Check your MAF and ICV. clean them out real good as well as your throttle body. if it still doesnt work you might need to get a new MAF which could be pretty pricey

Look on ebay for a MAF, pretty cheap there. Also get a print out from an auto parts store that reads the obd2, usually there are more than just on or two items that can be the cause, or if you know what code it was look on line. I was getting a reading that had those two plus it was saying that my cat wasnt getting hot enough with many more items, lower upper o2 sensors, lambda sensor, yadda yadda yadda...ohhhh the wonderful world of modern cars....NOT !!!!!!

try to switch(borrow) someone MAF to your car and see. It happened to me, i cleaned out my it didnt work, but wen i put a new one on it does. So if you want to make sure just borrow someone and use it for a while. see if it make a different?

i bought a new MAF, still doing the same. Could it be the cat is not heating up? there seems to be a lot of smoke for quite awhile.

did you try to clean out the iddling valve as well? Broken/nonfunctional cat could caught the problem also.

Yeah changed the idle control valve too. Last option is the cat although the 7th gen has 2 surely if it's the cat it'd flag up an error code.....
