Maybe your CV boot is worn or ripped and grease may be coming out? No way for us to tell, you're gonna have to take a look yourself. and $900 is waaaaay too much. I replaced mine myself and the axle was about $70. Took about an hour.

Well you need to take the entire CV Shaft out anyways when you change the boot, so you mind as well get a new one that has no damage to the ball bearings. $900 is highway robbery, go on ebay and find one, then have a mechanic put it in.

900 is a bit much but prices are all regional, if you live In a higher area like a bigger city they are going to cost more.

With that said. With a torn or worn cv boot, the bearings in the cv shaft maybe bad due to grease loss. also when changing out a cv you have to drain tranny fluids. (ATF or gear lube depending on the tranny) this is anywhere from 20 to 70 dollars in lubes then another say 60 to 200 for the actually shaft itself.then on top of that its another x dollars for labor. So when you really think about it. It's not that bad depending on what the cost of the parts.

We all know dealers cost more but I guarantee you they will warranty there work. and will so it right. You can not say its 100 where I'm at and its going to. Cost him 200. End point. If its ****** up and you can't fix it yourself. bit the bullet and get it fixed.

That's sounds like a more appropriate price and about what I would charge for replacement. Is that what they are doing or just re-booting it? For that price I'm assuming replacing the 1/2 shaft with new (or reman!).

Good. Did they give you the option of new or reman?

They make remanufactured half shafts? Ive never heard a such thing in my life. Just go to Advanced Auto Parts and buy one for $100, pop the old one out and the new one in. Vwalah
