Hey guys, I have a 2001 Celica gt, and I've started to notice the engine has been making a lot of noise, Its defiantly not as quiet as other 2001 Celica's and i was wondering what you guys recommend. I was looking to just completely take out my engine and put a new one or should i just find the problems with it and fix it the way it is. i have 170 KMs on it as well. I'm sure there's an oil leak as well as my oil does decrease pretty quickly.
any tips or advice would be fantastic. |

The oil consumption is normal for 2000-2002 models, nothing to be alarmed about, just keep up on it and it will be fine, mine has 227000 on it and runs great. as far as the noise, go to a dealer and have them look at it, some are just louder than others. let us know whats going on with it in any case and good luck

What kind of noise is it? Is it a clattering on the pulley side of the engine? A squeak? I have a recently purchased 01 GT and thew timing chain had stretched and it was making a clattering very specific in the location of the engine. I changed the guides, all sprockets including the VVTI sprocket and the tensioner. It was odd because until the engine reached operating temperature there was no clatter. On the highway you could here a slight uncharacteristic noise coming off and on throttle but not loud, once warm the sound at idle was alarming. You could very easily tellthe noise was coming from the timing assembly side of the engine. AL:dos it could be as simple as the sensor which controls the VVTI sprocket.
