Default Should I buy?

Hey guys, I'm a new member here and I'm looking to buy my first car! Basically just need a car for my senior year of high school and then I'm most likely going to sell it. Been looking at Celicas b/c they're Toyotas, so in theory should retain value and not give me many problems, and the Celicas are really nice looking. Today I checked out a 2000 Celica GT-S auto trans with 114k miles on it with 2 previous owners (father and then his son) with a clean tittle, and carfax shows no accidents whatsoever. The car has a leather interior (but the leather looks a little damaged), a spoiler, power windows, a sunroof, etc. but I forgot to check if it has ABS. The guy wants $5,100. What do you think? Also is it true that this car requires premium gas? I called my insurance agency to get a quote and found out about a GT Model, how much more would a GTS be to get insured? Thanks for any input/opinions.
P.S: Taking it to a mechanic tomorrow to see if eveything's okay with it, pending his veridic I might buy it tomorrow.

that seems like a pretty good price for the car. i'm sure you could get it down to 5000$. don't know about the insurance but i don't think it would be much more than the gt especially because its an auto. history on it looks good and if everything works like the windows and ac/heater then you got yourself a pretty good car. if you don't drive it much and keep it cleaned and maintained you could resell it for the same price in a year.

I have basically the same car and it has 172k miles. still runs great and a fun little car to drive. As far as the fuel question, yes, Toyota does recommend premium fuel, and so do I. I have had several performance cars that required premium fuel and have been told by mechanics that if its recommended, better use it, saves issues down the road. Good luck, hope ya get it, you will like it!

Not to bash or anything, but I would never buy that car from you at 5k unless the KBB was atleast 6k.
Nobody likes to buy used cars AT the KBB standard. Dealers don't do it and neither does the general public.

5100 is absolutely absurd, especially considering its an automatic

when you go get, bring some small jars with you and some tools and drain samples of every fluid into the jar and inspect the fluid in the jars, unless the ATF is clean... (i think its supposed to be pink? red? dunno, im colorblind, so i just go by smell and feel) its most likely junk and is going to need a rebuild

My two cents....Its an auto so its not gonna have as much power as a manual , if your just driving it for a year it should meet all your requirements and the car is a good resale item as seen all over the states , I bought mine for 2900 and now you cant find them for under 5.000. Insurance will be more since it has a more powerful engine than the GT but both are considered a sports car so it may not be much , you also have to think about your age , its gonna be cheaper for an old fart like me to get insurance that a young person like you.I for one dont use kbb prices but if you take care of it all the way around you can expect it to sell next year for about the same if you keep the miles down.Personally I would look for a gt , its going to be cheaper and you can use the money you save for some mods like air and exhaust set of wheels and tires and then sell it for more next year.Good luck.
