Need to hook the engine to an engine scanner. Can buy those on line for about $10-20. Need to see all the error codes then troubleshoot one by one. Usually 1 problem causes many error codes. Fixing the root problem will clear up all error codes. Dont go around changing everything.
The engine sputtering problem may be caused by 1. Spark plugs not firing: check plug cables or plugs to make sure they all fire, or 2. Not enough fuel into the cylinders. 1 of the causes for fuel starvation is the mass air flow sensor not connected or broken. When the sensor sends no signal, ECU assumes there is little or no air coming in, so it commands the injectors to inject very little fuel. The Mass Airflow sensor is a little black matchbox sitting on top of the air intake hose. Check the small connector. Usually people disconnect the connector to remove the air intake box then forget to reconnect it. If it's connected but still have same problem, the sensor may need cleaning or replacing: MAF Sensor Maintenance By iMR2 Remove rubber O ring before spraying so it wont get brittle spray with CRC may be BRAKE CLEANER but not CARB CHOKE CLEANER 3. Contaminated fuel or Bad fuel injectors: put in a bottle of Toyota's injector cleaner into the fuel tank and check. Good luck. Last edited by CAPTAIN SOLO; 08-18-2012 at 11:10 PM. |
