Default Automatic only goes in reverse!

Hello everybody. This is my first post here and I was hoping someone may have some advice me.

My car (a140e trans) only goes in reverse. I ran the diagnostic codes and it gave me code 42(vss) & 63(solenoid). I started by replacing solenoids 1 & 2, which didn't help, and am currently waiting for a new vss in the mail.

Any idea why my car only go in reverse? Would a bad vss cause this problem? I'm not very knowledgeable with these trans. so if anyone has a good place to start, I'm open to suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm... Have you tried any "cleaners" in the tranny in case you are getting clogged up stuff (valves, ports, etc) in there? Just might be an easy thing to try.

Lucas products are some of the best. One of you valves is stuck in the tranny. I think automatics change the gears with valves (basically). If your valves do not open or close, you are not going to get into any other gears.

Thanks guys. I'll give that stuff a try and see what happens. I unfortunately think it may be the forward clutch pack, which would require removing the trans. or just replacing it. The problem came on slow at first to where the car would have to warm up for it to shift properly, but eventually got to the point where it will no longer move forward at any temp....
