Default Best way to quiet racing muffler??

Now that my oil leak from the head gasket has been dealt with, my mind has turned to the too loud racing muffler that the po put on this car. In all honesty, I like how the car sounds and it has grown on me but I'm old enough to realize that it is just a bit over the top for the folks living around me. I have heard there are what's called inserts that can be screwed into the ends of my muffler's dual out take ends, but I wonder if I should just replace the muffler with something else. Any suggestions? ( Has a racing header, high flow cat, all exhaust is like new )

exhaust silencers: Engine Exhaust Silencers - Universal

will end up looking like such:

I don't know how it will affect your vehicle, but i'd be wary of exhaust gas temperatures getting too hot since its a restriction to exhaust gas airflow, and you may notice a slight amount more engine braking as well

Yeah but he would be going from japanese "steamed" rice to mexican rice. In my opinion mexican rice > Japanese rice. LOL

And I meant to put an OEM muffler on there. They don't restrict performance that much if you open up the rest of the exhaust.

Thanks for the suggestions (and the funny rice talk). I am having a hard time finding these silencer inserts on the web (probably not searching with correct words) so I'm thinking of just going with a new muffler. I had read on another thread that the thrush turbo muffler was popular for it's sound and low price.

Do this^^
I did the same thing on my Civic, I opened up the exhaust and deleted the muffler and it was horrible. I bolted my OEM muffler back on and it quieted down without losing power.

I guess you could call what I have as a fart can too, lol. I got under there and looked at it today and it's really not a muffler at all. It's really just a junction where a straight pipe splits into two 3.25 tail pipes. It only gives the illusion of being a muffler. I can not find silencer tips anywhere that will fit 3.25. Where I have found them they are sold out and from what you are saying, I doubt they would quiet this car all that much anyway. What I don't understand is, what are you guys calling oem exactly? I just want something that will take away the raspy noise but still sound like a sports car should. The engine has been modified some and the exhaust from the header to the high flow cat back is not stock so I'm not sure if oem would do what I want or not.
