Hello, I need a little help. Driving down the interstate this afternoon 5th gear stopped working out of no where. It was like I pushed in the clutch or pulled it out of gear. All other gears seem to be working fine, except for reverse at first. Couldn't pull it down into reverse(was like something was blocking it), but that started working fine again after getting it home. Also pushing it up into 5th doesn't have the resistance like all the other gears. Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but when I turn off the engine I hear something spinning for a second or two that I don't remember hearing before.
Assuming the worst right now that I need to get a new transmission or rebuild it. Have a 94 Celica with the 2.2. Manual Transmission |

Sounds like your locking ring is shot if you cant select 5th, which would also explain reverse as they rely on the same synchro. best bet is replace the transmission

![]() Hey McFly! Trust me here you need your trans replaced, and since you dont just change 1 part of a transmission as its all a "wear" part you just replace it all. Call around dont just do the first one that comes along. Also dont bother with a rebuild its cheaper to buy a new or reman instead. Best of luck
