Spacer Question

Hello I`m new to these threads and this is possibly been posted before... but I have a question about spacers. I have brought 17 inch scion rims and my tires his my shocks when I am driving above 40 and lean to turn I could smell the rubber... anyone use these rims before on 97 celica before? If so what size spacers should I use? Thanks guys d=-)
