I would check your alignment/toe - With it getting worse something may have happened there. also run some fuel injector cleaner if it's never been done. But could be something more serious. My 94 2.2 5sfe gets 28 on average, 31 straight highway, so your 27 could even be a little low. When considering gas mileage, one must think of the whole system, not just components, i.e. air pressure. Good luck

I used to get around 28 mpg mostly highway...got 30 AT THE MOST!! I had my mechanic change the flex pipe due to a hole in it. My mileage went up to a consistent 33 mpg and even sometimes 35 and one time 38! Yes i know how to measure mpg at the pump. The thing is, when you have a hole in your exhaust, outside air is forced into the exhaust and results in the O2 sensors reading extra O2, this causes them to make the intake mixture more rich in gas.

I also did an Auto-RX cleaning...it may have helped!

Good luck man!

I know this is an old thread but I got 38mpg last trip I took to the mountains. It was about 500 miles round trip. It's my wife's 1994 Automatic ST. It shocked me but since then I've been driving it to and from work (30 miles each way, mostly flat, about 60mph) and can consistently get 35+.

How many miles?I have215k and carbon deposits kill mpg, use some seafoam, or better yet take apart your intake manifold and clean it. Try changing your fuel filter as well

Get a professional tune-up, not a do it yourself kit. Watch your mpg return.
