Hey friends,
I have a 1990 1.6 st. (120K miles) When my car is cold its slow to start. I have to give it some gas in order for it to fire properly in the morning. I replaced a bad battery and a shot alternator but it's still happening. The only other thing I feel it might be is that my starter is going bad. But i'm not sure if this is how a deteriorating starter behaves. When the car is warm it starts right up no problem. Has anybody else had this problem or know anything that could help me out? |

Well, I'm not sure what a turbo whine sounds like but it doesn't sound slow or like its laboring to much to turn the car over. The krank speed sounds normal, I just have to hold the key for 3 or 4 more seconds than usual and give it a little throttle in order for it to catch. If I let go too soon and don't give it any gas it just sputters and never catches.

MY car has a little trouble starting in the cold, you hold the key down and it doesn't do anything until about 5 seconds of holding it down, then it cranks over. It's fine when it's warm out or you've started it once already. Kind of weird but oh well. lol

Help! She is slow to start!! ||1990 Toyota Celica 1.6 st. - YouTube
Here is a link to a video I posted about it starting. Make sure you turn up your speakers because it's hard to hear from the inside. Check out the description too. |
