Exclamation 90 ST Slow to start?!

Hey friends,

I have a 1990 1.6 st. (120K miles) When my car is cold its slow to start. I have to give it some gas in order for it to fire properly in the morning. I replaced a bad battery and a shot alternator but it's still happening.

The only other thing I feel it might be is that my starter is going bad. But i'm not sure if this is how a deteriorating starter behaves.

When the car is warm it starts right up no problem.

Has anybody else had this problem or know anything that could help me out?

I would say starter, and also how long ago did you change the spark plug and wires? That could also be a issue.

Like BottleCapBandit said could be a lot of things would be hard to say without looking at it, we need more details?
Does it crank ? crank crank crank nothing or does it sound like something spinning almost like a turbo whine ...

Well, I'm not sure what a turbo whine sounds like but it doesn't sound slow or like its laboring to much to turn the car over. The krank speed sounds normal, I just have to hold the key for 3 or 4 more seconds than usual and give it a little throttle in order for it to catch. If I let go too soon and don't give it any gas it just sputters and never catches.

fuel pressure regulator? We have an electric fuel pump so pumping the gas leads me to think its the regulator. You said cranking speed is up so I wouldnt think it would be the starter.

MY car has a little trouble starting in the cold, you hold the key down and it doesn't do anything until about 5 seconds of holding it down, then it cranks over. It's fine when it's warm out or you've started it once already. Kind of weird but oh well. lol
