well there isn't much you can do to a 4afe. intake, headers and exhaust are about it. lighten it up and do some suspension work.

The head is one of the biggest advantages the 4age has over the 4afe, just take off work and do it right

I pretty sure it is like the Honda swap to put the 1.5L SOHC heads on the 1.6L SOHC block, it is possibly but it also requires an unnatural length timing belt that is not used on any production cars.

It is kajillion times easier and a tad bit more expensive to put a 4age head on a 4age block with 4age internals and put that in your car. Optional: put a MR2 supercharger on there

Straight off of a Corolla forum:
"By the sounds of it you would have to change the ecu, coil, distributor, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, fan belt (coz the 4afe cams run off each other, while the 4age cams run independently from the belt), fuel lines etc.... like I said, I’m not 100% but that’s just what it looks like to me. Oh and no, I don’t think u will be able to fit the 4age camshafts in the 4afe head as they have different intake angles, and a different cam drive assembly."

As stated, the timing belt will cause an insurmountable issue with the rotation of the camshafts
