Unhappy Clunking sound from front driver side when releasing clutch

Hi guys,

had my 92' st 184 for about 5 months now, and shes been perfect up until now. never had any sign or indication of anything wrong until i pulled out of a kerb last night and suddenly she just made this loud clunking, grinding sound whenever i release the clutch pedal and it starts to bite.

No idea what it could be have been told it could be anything from cv joint, to snapped driveshaft, to clutch to gearbox by mechanics was wondering if anyone has had a similar problem or knows what it could be?

I had a small crash bout 3 months ago where the back spun on wet road and my driver side door slammed into a gaurd rail...maybe some unfound damage has caused something to finally break??? Otherwise i have no idea what else it is :/

any help or suggestions greatly appreciated

I would probably say its the transmission, any visible damage when you look under the car?

Exclamation Cv joints

Funny you should mention cv joints...my 90 ST needs them. The first sign was the loud clacking noise when accelerating while turning at low speeds. It's a popping clacking sound comin from the front wheels if it's the cv joints. Usually they wear after a while if you accelerate harshly (guilty...) or if the cv boot around the joint gets cracked. This allows foreign matter to get in and mess up the joints. The joints are easy to see, at least on mine. They should be closer to the cab than the front axle and above the axle. They have rubber boots on each end, one end meeting the wheel and one end meeting a metal hinge type thing in the middle bottom back of the engine bay. Check the boots. The boots tell all.
