Question oil change

I want to do oil change but i need to know how much oil i need is it 2.2l or how do u know how much to put? I always take it to a shop butbi wanna start to get hands on lol. Its a 1992 celica gt 2.2

just buy 4 or 5 quarts to be safe. I think it takes like 3.5 quarts. Check the oil with the dipstick. 10w30 should be good.

Well my bro use to out 15 40. And he said it was fine to go down to 10 40. He is now in mexico lol he was a mechanic. I woukd ask him to help bur he aint here lol thnx by the way

go with the 10 40 i noticed more of a rattle with 10 30 than when i would have 10-40 in it

I noticed the same thing. And i will do it as soin as the car cools down lol. For some reason it feel the car lost power. I noticed tht after they smoged checked it

Ive heard of this before too, think it has to do with the heavier weight oil causing more resistance. Didnt think it would be enough to make a noticeable difference though. Curious to know as im considering going to a heavier weight oil myself. (Currently use 10w30)

I have been using the same oil. The car was running fine. Till after the smoged check. Im thinking of going back and askin what they did.

GT I think is 3.8 quarts by 1.6L is 3.3

there is no "weight" to the oil just viscosity. the w actually stands for winter. the lower the temperature in your area the lower number winter grade you want go with. so the oil will have a different viscosity by using 5w-30 in say new York where it would be cold all the time would require the lower viscosity to help with proper lubrication. the opposite for hot desert climates where the oil will get too warm and burn if you use a lower winter rating than your climate demands.

most often people use higher viscosity oil to get rid of a noise to mask a base engine related problem.

you can find charts online from SAE providing information the which oils should be used in your region during whatever season your in.
