Default 4A Vs 3S for ST

i was checking around the forums i was considering doing a 4A-GE silvertop or a 4A-GZE into my st..but i read on the tampa racing forum that the 4age is junk in a heavy st? heavy st? the ST is 200lbs lighter than a GT/GTS from the research i have done. i am correct in thinking a 4A would be good in my st i mean the AE weighs 2k-2400 the ST weighs 2447-2500 (couldnt find an accurate number). and the silvertop uses the same transmission as my car correct? I was also looking for a write up on the swap with wiring but the geocities links are dead since yahoo killed geocities...so basically is the 4A really junk in the ST?

first of all. 3s is not a direct swap for a st. 4a series would be. 4agze would be the best bet. reason people are in dire search for 3sgte is the power output possibilities. you can gt 500+hp easily. after that the head and other misc things limit you. i will admit i dont know too much about the 4a series but i do know for a ST a 4age or 4agze is your best option.

You are almost correct with weights of vehicle. The St weighs in at about 2250lbs.. where as the. AE corollas varies from 2k-2400 lbs.. most corolla owners thinks the all celica are always heavier than corolla. The 4ag(z)e (silver) would be the best bet. Its getting the harness rewired is the tricky part. If u have smog in ur area then its pointless for a DD. If you're concerned about the weight of the celica, you can always do a 1.8 Frankenstein for additional torque and still be legit to the eyes of smog techs.

Being a guy that had a real Celica and has fooled with an AE86, the celica is heavier.
Remember, a AE86 was made in the 80's, back when the Celica was a RWD sportscar the size of a Fairlady Z

I would go with a 4A-GE Blacktop, 165HP crank right out of the box, and has tons of potential.

i was gonna go with a GZE makes 160-170 depending on year and either has 8psi or 10psi on the year of the engine. and the 4a with its cams makes the power in the top end if NA so with low end boost i would think you sohuld have decent power throughout the power band instead of just having boost at the top from a turbo.
