Question 1990 5SFE headwork and valves.

I'm new here, and am having a full port and polish done on the 5sfe cylinder head outa my 90 celica gt, I was wondering if the valves from a 3sge/gte will work in my head once the valve seats or bored out to match. Any info would be rad. That, and how much material would need to be shaved from the head to raise compression? I'm looking for a good solid NA build, not a race or drag machine, in addition to head work how much of a difference would +1mm valves make? (I'm also boring out the runners on the manifold, and putting in a supra throttle body or something comparable to work with the custom intake system I'm still designing.)

I'd have to check the valve size on the 3s but I believe them to be smaller or the same size but this will do nothing without bigger cams and a air fuel controller. Plus your looking at a big price tag for a little gain, my head work alone cost 700 bucks and I did 1mm oversize

I am having a stage one cam regrinds done since I'm rebuilding the head. So should I stick with the port and polish and simply not worry about the valve size since I am building this thing NA? Got any recommendations in regards to an air fuel controller? I have a friend who was able to help me out on getting a pretty good deal, his dad works in a shop. I know that high comp pistons a the smarter way to go, but I'm not spending 700 for pistons alone, is the head shave any good for gaining comp?

Valves will give you a better flow, shaving the head will gain compression But depending on the numbers your looking for you might be better off turbo the 5s or dropping a 3s in, in all honesty it seems like your going to be spending alot of money for little gain 200 maybe 300 if done right, your asking a lot about internals and valves but have you thought about fuel?

I'm assuming that your referencing fuel management correct? I have put some thought into it, done a little bit research, probably not enough though. Truth is, the only reason I haven't purchased those items is because I'm a big believer in buying the right part the first time. I know HKS makes a cheap "AFR" (piggy back style I believe), venom does too. I can't find anyone knowledgable enough to point me in the right direction. I have contemplated replacing the factory vacuum fuel pressure regulator with one I can fine tune, along with a better fuel pump. What recommendations for fuel management could you make? I really do appreciate your feedback. You get a gold star!

Most setups i see use the afcneo. Also wigh this you will have to upgrade to a slightly bigger injector, depending on the injector raiting depends if you need to upgrade you fpr and fuel pump.

Sweet. So check the fuel pump flo rating, what flo rating fuel injectors would you recommend? I'll see if I can find the flo rate on those. In conjunction with the head work and stage one cams, what kinda power bump you estimate?

Cool, like I said I want a good solid NA build, daily driver already so that's what I'm looking for (with a lot more zziinngg). Should the local machine shops be able to estimate the amount of material to be shaved from the head? Will I need to purchase a custom head gasket in the process? I know a guy that should be able to fetch an AFC NEO for around $200. Know just trying to locate wiring diagrams. So in regards to the throttle body and custom ram air system. I've heard having a wider to kills bottom end torque, any valdity to this?

The shop should beable to tell you everything. They may need to look it up so be patient with them. Also you prob will need a custom hg. With this ammount of pressure and everything you should look at rods and high comp pistons. Along with arp head studs and possibly main studs. Your looking at high dollar work.
