Default Rear Struts - Advice Needed

Anybody have a recommendation for some decent rear struts? Everything's stock on this car right now as far as I know, and I'm not looking to go all out on this—just don't like the clunking-noises back there, whenever I hit a rough patch...

The standard three stores where I live (AutoZone, AdvanceAuto, and NAPA) have a few options ranging from the basic $66 Gabriel Ultra to the $168 Bilstein. Of course, eBay's probably got some deals I should check out, too.

Hmm...how do you like those KYBs? Were they just the "cartridges," or the whole strut assembly? Did you order them online? Have any trouble installing them?

Thanks for the suggestion, djelfut.

For the rear its the whole strut assembly, KYB's are good n will go well for ur daily driver as well if u dont plan on spending a whole lot on suspension. Just make sure they're the grey looking color( JAP made) & not the OEM black looking one( USA made). But if they offer lifetime go for it, or try bilstein i know those r more stiffer i would think. I've only used bilstein for off-roading use on one of my trucks before n no complains @ all

I bought a pair of Monroe Sensatracs on ebay. They were cheaper than KYB and seem pretty good so far. Make sure you also order new spring perch isolators (rubber rings that go between the perch on the strut and the bottom of the coil spring) and new dust boots. Its very unlikely that you will need new top hats.

As for removal and installation, are you mechanically experienced? This isn't a particularly hard project, but has the potential to be dangerous.

Yeah, I've done quite a bit of mechanical work, although rear struts are not on the list...yet. I know that those springs can pack a wallop and need to be handled carefully. Appreciate any tips you guys have for installation (I'll be following my Chilton's guide for most of it...once I get around to doing the job, that is.)

I'll take a look at eBay for the KYBs and see what kind of pricing I can find. Thanks for the recommendations.

installing it is pretty simple. just need a spring compressor and basic tools. only tricky part is the brake lines which is threaded through the strut so you'll need to remove it from the somewhere like on the caliper and then bleed the system.

KYB i bought was the grey one. $75 with free shipping. basic tools and spring compressor. i also bought kyb boot and kyb mount.. most website u can find gives you free shipping if you order parts more than $70. it was a good deal. rear struts are the whole assembly, ive not seen strut inserts at the rear. last month ive installed two front KYBS inserts for the front at $35 each but from rockauto.
