1990-1993 not 2000+

I don't see why it wouldn't.

Just out of curiosity, what difference would be made by swapping ecu?

Mine was broken when i got the car... I found a fix for this, open up the tach and replace the bad capacitors.. There was a DIY for this on the mr2 forums somewhere... I was so happy when i got it fixed lol, costed like a buck or 2 for the capacitors but you need to solder the new ones in..

Found the DIY link here

isnt the ecu the same ? the differences where cosmetic. such as the 10 speaker sound system, better seats, speedometer...
I have the gts speedometer in my car with the gt ecu and everything works fine.
I will be installing the door panel with the speakers soon, but thats easy.
i already swapped the seats for the better gts ones. but i used two passenger seats and swapped one to driver because the electric drivers seat is much heavier and i am lightweighing mine.
so i will also look for very light 8 inch door panel speakers ( like 50 wrms each ).

apparently you cant change the front fenders for clearance reasons. and the rear fenders... well think about it, thats a bigger job than i can handle.

have fun

Nope, of course you could commit misdemeanor tampering and try to change it, but you'll just break the mechanism anyway.
