rough idle warm restart
Have not been on the forum for a while. I had been chasing this problem for about 5 years. Car starts fine and runs great when cold. If I drive it for at least 10 miles or so and cut it off and then restart it everything is ok. If I drive it and cut it off for about an hour it restarts ok. If I drive it and cut it off for about 15-30 mins it restarts and runs rough. Until recently it never failed when driving. A couple of months ago I started having problems when stopping at a light and then taking off. It had no power and I had to keep pumping the gas pedal and then finally it took off. I had replaced almost everything (injectors, plugs, igniter, maf, cleaned throttle body, checked for leaking hoses). Finally with the advice of my brother he dropped the fuel tank and replaced the fuel pump. The pump was pretty warm even after the car had been off for a while. It could have been getting hot and then failing. Anyway we replaced the pump and I have driven it for about a week in hot weather with no problems. The only problem we had removing the tank was the high pressure fuel line coupling was very "stiff" when taking it apart. My brother took his time and went back and forth tightening and loosening the line a little at a time until he got it separated. It felt like it was ready to break or strip the whole time it was coming apart. When it finally separated the threads were not damaged and it went back together with no problem. The fact that it had not been loosened in 27 years was probably why it was so tight. The only other thing to make note of was when the cover plate screws were removed and the pump was ready to come out of the tank the assy needed to be "rotated" when lifting out of the tank. It does not come just up and out. Will post again it this did not fix the problem.
