Default Celica that sounds like a washing machine

Ive bought a Toyota Celica really cheap its a 1995 model 1.8,i dont no if its an ST or a Gt or a Sports yet.Ive not seen the car yet in the flesh im going to pick it up later.The woman that owned it said she was driving down the motorway and a noise happened and it sounded like a Coin in a washing machine.Any ideas

possibly something lose in the engine bay maybe. **** a small bolt could make a lot of noise. or maybe an exhaust leak. you'd have to hear it in person to really know. some people tend to over or under exaggerate

Its a ST, has the 1.8L 7A-FE.

First thing to check are the half shafts (cv axels), i had one rip open and it sounded HORRIBLE!! But if its coming from the engine, if it sounds like knocking and it increases when you step on the gas its going to be rod knock. Youll have to pull the engine apart and replace the crankshaft and some rods/bearings. You should also check the top of the motor under the valve cover, the cams might be worn. Good luck
