Default Jdm and northamerican starters the same??

I got a 1991jdm convertible with 3sge 5spd. I think the starter has alot of dead spots as I get clicking instead of starting. Do the jdm and north American starters turn the same way??

According to the Toyota EPC your starter is part number 28100-74021. This part number was also used in US 1989 Celica convertible, and 1989 Camry with 3S-FE engines.

Also, all "S" series engines rotate in the same direction so all starters that are located the same way will turn the same direction.

Edit: O'Reilly Auto Parts website lists the Beck Arnley starter part# 187-0360 as a replacement for this Toyota part.
