Default help with flywheel issue

Hello all.

I just bought a 2000 celica GTS, 6 speed, with 99,000 miles, for $450 dollars..
When my starter engages, its turning the flywheel, but not the crank. I can turn the fly whee with 2 fingers. I checked the crank pulley and I can turn it with a ratchet. But, when I turn the crank pulley, the fly wheel spins with it some times..

I am stumped on weather I need a new crank, flywheel, ring gear, or what. Hopefully someone here knows what my problem is because the local garage looked at me like I was stupid.

It's obvious from what you said that the flywheel needs to be replaced. Either the outer ring has detached from the center or the flywheel bolts have broken. You'll have to pull the transmission to see exactly what the damage is.

I have a flywheel I can sell also. Personally if I did all that work id replace the clutch and install a lightweight flywheel.
