Default 7th gen 1.8 VVT-I life expectancy

i bought my celica in good faith it would last me a few years since ive had great experiences with the toyota trucks ive owned/own. Ive got almost 200k miles on my 87 pickup and it still runs like a champ so i figured my celica could do about the same.

My 2002 celica gt has roughly 128k miles on it, how long is the motor good for? ive heard these VVT-Is sometimes blow head gaskets and stuff

Best way to answer this question is by saying its all about how you maintain the motor. You take care of it it will take care of you. I bought one at 158,000 miles and it needed to be rebuild head, valve seals, ect... But I'm sure the car was not taken very good care of. I have friends with similar motors as my celica in like say the corolla that have like 250,000 miles on it and are running like a champ and they take very good care of the motor. I will say dont miss the oil change. The oil pumps in these like to go out if you let the oil pass to long.

Know a guy with a 400K+ 7th gen and it's still running like a champ!
Keep up with maintenance, it'll last you a lifetime.

as these guys said...keep it maintained and its gonna run forever...mine has 233,000 on it and some change and still runs like it was new...I have the oil guzzling model and know I always have to have extra oil in car for trips and that I need to check at beginning and end of week, sea foam it as well, there are guides on here or other places that explain how to do it....good luck with it...Mike

As long as you maintained it well regular change oil and tune up it could last more than 20yrs.
