Default Air intake

Evening all,

I have this problem, I recently purchased an air filter kit off ebay to replace the stock air filter box (was off a scrapped celica, so i was sure it would fit unlike the last kit i bought). The image shows the donor.

The problem is, that I have looked at K&N guides and Typhoon guides (which shows an exact product to mine) that are floating about on the Internet, however the instructions do not match up to what I find under the bonnet.

  • first problem is, there are too many hoses stock hoses left with nowhere to go (the aftermarket air pipe only has one intake pipe fitting & a part for MAF sensor)
  • EVAP OBD Canister that is mentioned in all guides I have seen, I can't find this on the vehicle and I have looked thoroughly
My celica is VVTL-I 190 2001. I was thinking my model maybe did not have this ECAP OBD canister? And that perhaps this was a feature of the 140? As looking at the picture it shows VVTI engine

One thing I definitely need to buy is a 8mm silicone hose, as the dismantler dudes didn't enclose this, despite asking them to enclose everything. I am thinking that perhaps I am missing caps for the many left over pipes, however on the guide which shows the inventory of parts, it only shows one cap.

I am so stuck and quite simply gutted that I cant get this installed. The guide looks relatively straight forward, however sadly things are never simple when I perform a car mod

If anyone can help then it would be very much appreciated.

i don't know much about the 7th gens. you'll have to block off some hoses i know for sure. try newcelica.org. its a 7thgen site that i'm sure has a write up somewhere. let us know if you figure it out and if you want make a write up on it so others know. its a pretty common question here

I have an aftermarker no name intake on my 01. Basically I ended up plugging all ht ehoses that had no connection on the new intake with nails. Yes, it's hillbilly but it works and I now get 39mpg on my car.

Motorslave that sounds a little too good to be true. Do you have a CEL on or pass inspection?

Guys, I am new to the forum here. I just purchased an 02 GTS. I have the same issue as CAI was already installed, I have experienced lack of starting after fueling, p0171codes (too lean bank 1), p0301 codes(cylinder 1 misfire) , and a TPS code I can't remember. all are reoccurring every time I reset the CEL. Having said that the canister you seek is for your EVAP it is not in engine compartment. I fixed these problems by rerouting vacuum lines, evap canister must be used! if you still have this issue, let me know and I will do my best to help.

well I lied problems not fixed, I did find the installation guide at K&N's website. my problem seems to be that vacuum switches are missing, and EGR valve not hooked into vacuum system. hope this helps. to properly install cold air intake, vacuum switches must be reused!
