Default Android Tablet Install

What I've been wanting to do for a while is have a place to mount an android tablet, probably the Nexus 7. It would replace the small pocket above the radio, I'd remove the door and come up with some way to mount the tablet in there.

Figuring a way to mount the tablet isn't the question here. What I want to do mainly with it is not only control music, but also be able to communicate with the car via OBD2. There's a couple android apps out there that do this via bluetooth with something like this:

Amazon.com: Koolertron F-12 ELM 327 OBDII PC Car Diagnostic Scanner: Automotive Amazon.com: Koolertron F-12 ELM 327 OBDII PC Car Diagnostic Scanner: Automotive

The price scares me, it seems too cheap lol.

This is the app that apparently works with it

https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...l.torque&hl=en

Has anyone ever done something like this? The app and device are both cheap, so I may attempt this regardless of any hurdles I might come across. And don't worry, the tablet will be removable. I certainly won't be leaving it in the car to be stolen :P

reviews for it seem ok and its pretty cheap so you won't be taking a major loss with it. if you try it let us know how it works out.

Just ordered a smaller adapter so it will fit (the larger one would poke out too much)

It'll be here thursday. I'll post how it all goes.

They have a pretty extensive wiki and are always updating. From all the reviews I've seen of the app, it's pretty accurate.

And yeah, feel free to copy my idea :P It's super cheap. If you already have an android phone or tablet, all you'd be spending is /maybe/ $20 total. I'll be spending a bit more for a tablet to keep mounted in my car, plus whatever I'll need to modify the dash.

Actually, I don't think Torque will work with obd1 even with an adapter.

Projects on hold atm >.< Got the part, but I lost my phone. Ordering a new one Wednesday. I'm hoping to use a friends phone to at least test out the bluetooth tool/app. if I get a chance to, I'll take some screenshots of the app.
